Pemberton's photographs are the result of numerous visits to the southwestern region of Nigeria to study and document the rich and complex religious life of the Yoruba people. Sherer traveled through Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mali, and the Ivory Coast on assignment from the London bureau of the Associated Press documenting everyday life.
