My wife and I became interested in the country through the novels of the Albanian writer Ismael Kadare. We visited for the first time in 1992; in 1994 I received a Fulbright to create a book about daily life in the mountainous northern region of the country. Long LIfe to Your Children! A Portrait of High Albania was published in 1997. We returned numerous times to continue our research and maintain contacts with the many people we met. |
